Charlie Hunnam Transforms Into Serial Killer Ed Gein in Netflix’s Monster Season 3

Netflix continues to explore real-life crime stories with the third season of its anthology series Monster. Following the dramatization of Jeffrey Dahmer’s story (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) and the Menéndez brothers (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story), Season 3 will focus on Edward Gein—the infamous killer who inspired classic horror films like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.

Charlie Hunnam Takes the Lead Role

British actor Charlie Hunnam, best known for Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim, will portray Ed Gein. This marks the first time Gein’s life will be depicted in detail on screen, from his troubled childhood with an overbearing mother to his arrest in 1957.

Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne, The Big Bang Theory) will star as Augusta Gein, Ed Gein’s domineering mother, whose influence played a crucial role in shaping his twisted psyche. The cast also includes Tom Hollander (The White Lotus) and Olivia Williams (The Crown) in supporting roles.

Ed Gein – The Serial Killer Who Defined Horror

Edward Gein, also known as the “Butcher of Plainfield,” shocked America in the 1950s with his gruesome crimes. Not only did he murder his victims, but he also exhumed corpses from graves and repurposed their remains into macabre household items. Though only two murders were officially confirmed, his disturbing actions left a lasting impact on pop culture, inspiring some of the most notorious villains in horror cinema.

Expected Release Date

As of now, Netflix has not announced an official release date for Monster: The Original Monster, but production is set to begin in October 2024. The series is expected to provide an in-depth look into Ed Gein’s complex life and his lasting influence on the horror genre.
