The Final Dogfight: Maverick, Rooster and the War with Cerberus
Following the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick (2022), which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, Paramount has confirmed that a third installment in the series is in development. Ehren Kruger, co-writer of Maverick, is penning the new script, with director Joseph Kosinski expected to return to the director’s chair.
Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Actors Miles Teller (Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw) and Glen Powell (Jake “Hangman” Seresin) are also expected to return. Additionally, Jennifer Connelly and Jon Hamm could reprise their roles as Penny and Vice Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson.

Although plot details have not been revealed, Top Gun 3 is expected to continue to explore the relationship between Maverick and Rooster, while introducing new challenges as modern technology such as drones are introduced into training and combat.

Currently, Paramount has not announced an official release date for Top Gun 3. However, with Tom Cruise’s busy schedule, including completing Mission: Impossible 8 and other projects, the film will most likely be released in 2026.
